Project Overview :

SNCU Mentoring is a comprehensive digital platform designed to strengthen the quality of neonatal care services across Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) in Uttar Pradesh. Supported by the National Health Mission (NHM) and UNICEF, the solution enables structured clinical mentoring, capacity building of healthcare staff, and data-driven monitoring to help reduce preventable neonatal deaths.

The system digitizes the standardized Clinical Mentoring SOP followed in Uttar Pradesh and helps healthcare leaders monitor SNCU performance trends, mentor activities, quality indicators, gaps, and action closures in real time.

This platform plays a crucial role in ensuring adherence to updated national protocols, improving service readiness, and enhancing clinical skills of medical and nursing staff across the state.

Project Need & Purpose :

Neonatal mortality continues to be a major healthcare challenge in India. Uttar Pradesh alone contributes significantly to the nation’s newborn deaths, often due to:

  • Preterm birth complications
  • Neonatal infections
  • Birth asphyxia
  • Infrastructure and resource limitations
  • Lack of consistent on-site clinical mentoring
  • Limited use of SNCU data for decision-making

To address this challenge, Uttar Pradesh introduced a structured mentoring system involving trained pediatricians visiting SNCUs regularly to assess performance, train staff, guide improvement action plans, and track outcomes.
